Little Girls

Pastel collage on paper. 250cmx100cm. SOLD

'Little Girls' or as the Greeks say, 'Kopeloulas' are the nickname for cyclamen flowers because of the way their flower heads drop in a bashful manner. This painting is exploring the character of the flower in its closed and open form. Parallel to this is the concept of essence. Plato discussed the idea of the shadows on the cave wall often being mistaken for reality. In this painting I have challenged this idea and taken the shadow as the essence of truth. This comes from the notion that if I really want to see how I am I watch my shadow and its energy. When my shadow is drawn around as it is here it is a way of depicting my essence and therefore a part of my soul and spirit.
